Teen pleads guilty to drug charges allegedly connected to police shooting
WINDSOR, Ont. -- A Windsor teen admitted in court Friday he was involved in drug dealing allegedly connected to the May 5 murder of city police officer Const. John Atkinson.

Coty Clifford Defausses, 18, pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

"This young man has always accepted responsibility for his conduct, which was being in possession of the crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking" said defence lawyer Maria Carroccia. "So he's entered his plea."

Federal prosecutor Richard Pollock said outside court Defausses pleaded guilty to possession of all drugs found on him and Nikkolas Robert Brennan, 18, following Atkinson's murder. Brennan is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence.

Defausses "has admitted knowledge and control with respect to all crack cocaine arising from the arrest of both Mr. Brennan and himself," said Pollock.

Atkinson, 37, a plain clothes Windsor police officer, was gunned down with his badge in his hand May 5 after interrupting an apparent drug deal. His gun was holstered when the fatal shot was fired.

Defausses and Brennan were both arrested after a massive manhunt through the streets and back yards of Windsor's east side.
